New York has everything, so yeah, they have a Museum of Sex as well.
After 6 months spent in NYC in 2010, I started looking for more attractions that I didn’t already see. So, 2011 was the year I got to visit the New York Museum of Sex.
I’d like to say that my traveling was meticulously planned, that I got educated as much as possible in everything NYC related and did my sightseeing based on a good schedule.
I’d lie.
I actually stumbled across most New York Buildings, just roaming the streets aimlessly and seeing them in front of me. Only in 2012, on our last stay there, I finally looked online for recommendations, since most of the regular attractions weren’t new anymore.
During one of my 5th Avenue walks, I noticed the Museum and decided to enter. The admission was 18 bucks and to the day I regret paying it.
While it allows me to show you some pics and give you an idea for another NYC attraction, the Museum of Sex didn’t leave me a great impression.
Of course, I could have paid extra for more stuff inside, but I usually like to stay out of these up-sell schemes, since in most cases the admission price is already hefty enough and I expect to see something for this money.
Anyway, it’s still an interesting location to try visit, so don’t ignore it.
I started walking up 5th Avenue, noticing the glorious Empire State Building. To this date the view from its top is one of my favorites in the world.
It’s spring and I couldn’t keep myself from photographing the Flatiron with beautiful magnolia.
Hey, it’s a beautiful building, of course I wanted another snapshot.
I turn around and take one more pic. I promise, it’s the last.
Time to walk towards Rockefeller Center (which was my actual destination that day). Bang! Museum of Sex.
It caught my eyes. At the corner of 5th Avenue and 27th Street.
Plenty of time, some money in my pockets, my new DSLR in my hands. Let’s visit it!
Some cute and some disturbing souvenirs, take your pick.
One of the best things there, yes, there are things I did enjoy, was a display of old sex toys.
I posted this pic on my blog back then and asked my readers what that was and most commented it’s either an old mixer or a hairdryer.
It’s the Museum of Sex, you probably know what it is.
Looks like vibrators are quite evolved now 😀
A pretty cute zipper coin purse and a warning ..
They probably know what they are saying 🙂
The New York Museum of Sex, was, together with MoMa, one of my biggest disappointments, but it’s still a place to check out. The next time I happen to be in NYC, I promise to go there once again and bring you some fresher insights.
